Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. Idag är det midsommarafton. Det är dagen då svenskarna firar sommarsolståndet. I år är det emellertid först i övermorgon, söndag, som det riktiga sommarsolståndet infaller. Alltså den dag på året som dagen är som allra längst och natten som allra kortast. Och det är den dagen som borde kallas midsommardagen.

Sommarsolståndet är den riktiga midsommaren. Solen står i zenit över den norra vändkretsen, Kräftans vändkrets. Det brukar (nästan) alltid hända den 21 juni. Och det var med all sannolikhet då som midsommar traditionellt firades av våra förfäder. 

Människan har uppmärksammat sommarsolståndet i tusentals år. Stonehenge i England är uppfört så att solen går upp i linje med monumentet vid sommarsolståndet. Även de egyptiska pyramidbyggarna och sannolikt våra egna gånggriftsbyggare hade god kunskap om solens rörelser.

Judarnas hämnd. Purimsfesten.
På trettonde dagen i tolfte månaden, det är månaden Adar, den dag då konungens befallning och påbud skulle verkställas, och då judarnas fiender hade hoppats att bliva dem övermäktiga — fastän det vände sig så, att judarna i stället skulle bliva sina motståndare övermäktiga — på den dagen församlade sig judarna i sina städer, i alla konung Ahasveros' hövdingdömen, för att kasta sig över dem som sökte deras ofärd; och ingen kunde stå dem emot, ty förskräckelse för dem hade fallit över alla folk. Och alla furstarna i hövdingdömena och satraperna och ståthållarna och konungens tjänstemän understödde judarna, ty förskräckelse för Mordokai hade fallit över dem. Ty Mordokai var nu stor i konungens hus, och hans rykte gick ut i alla hövdingdömen, eftersom denne Mordokai blev allt större och större. And where the Holy Trinity is all of creation is and you are surrounded by such beauty and light as you cannot imagine in this life. Your Mother comes as Our Lady of Grace with her hands out-stretched. Rays of light emit from her hands piercing your body, healing you and filling you with graces. This is your inheritance which was poured out from the heart of Jesus on the Cross, when the centurion pierced His Heart
