Den vitklädda skaran
Uppenbarelseboken, som vår text i dag är hämtad från, är en bok full av bildspråk som beskriver kyrkans och helgonens kamp, strid och seger under den yttersta tidens vånda fram till Kristi återkomst. Den talar i starka bilder om den andliga kampen mot den stora draken, vilddjuret och mot Antikrist, som tränger in i kyrkan och förnekar Kristus och hans evangelium. Allt detta sker i ett antal dramatiska akter där sju insegel bryts och sju basuner ljuder och sju vredesskålar utgjuts över jorden. Aposteln Johannes fick se detta drama i en syn medan han var på ön Patmos, en liten ofruktbar klippö i Egeiska havet, dit han blivit förvisad i samband med kejsar Dominitianus förföljelse av de kristna på 90-talet. Det sjunde kapitlet är en liten mellanakt mellan två andra akter. Den är given som tröst för Guds folk på jorden. Den visar fram mot målet: den himmelska härligheten hos Gud. I dag får vi genom Johannes en inblick i den världen

Gud, kom meg til hjelp
Herre, vær snar til frelse.
Ære være Faderen og Sønnen og den Hellige Ånd.
Som det var i opphavet, så nå og alltid og i all evighet. Amen. (Halleluja!)

Himlene, Herre, forteller din ære,
Mesteren prises av hvelvingen blå.
Solen og månen og stjernenes hære
sier oss grant hva din makt kan formå.
Ei er det ord eller tale som lyder,
over all jorden dog når deres røst.
Folkeferd alle det vitnesbyrd tyder,
gjenklang det har i hvert menneskebryst.

Solen går frem som en brudgom i smykke,
løper sin bane med kraft som en helt,
vekker av jorden til livsgledens lykke
skapningen all under himmelens telt.
Dag etter dag om din miskunnhet melder,
som våre dager, så styrke vi fikk.
