It was a bright sunny evening at Green Wall and Fröjdens FK was beaming with confidence after having won 4 games on the run. Having defeated FC Härlanda in the previous week, one of the best teams in the league, the team was looking forward to continuing the good run against SK Argo. With the team arriving well in advance, there was ample time to have a relaxed warm up session. The directions were very clear from Jonathan “hamburger for breakfast” in the locker room, go out there and enjoy the game as we have done in the past.
Kick-off was on time and Fröjdens was looking to not be worried about the curse of the Green Wall having lost the two games there this season. As done in the past, the team was patient and waited for team Argo to give it all that they are capable of. The defensive unit of Fröjdens did suffer an early blow as Philip walked off because of a strain in the early stages of the first half. Argo made full use of their wingbacks and they did well to put pressure on the central midfielders of Fröjdens during this time. Jonathan Mattsson who replaced Philip didn’t just have to lead the defence but also make sure the team was composed and not give in to the pressure that the team was being subjected to. In the 20th minute one of their midfielder lobbed the ball into the last third of our goal area. A miscommunication between Paschim and Mattsson gave the opposition a chance to take the lead. This was not something that would put us down for the rest of the game. The team was confident about being able to do well in the remaining part of the game and we went into the half time trailing 1-0.
With the first half put behind, we were ready to come out stronger than ever in the second half and that was proved when we played with a lot of confidence to begin with. Just 15 minutes into the second half, Magnus provided a scintillating through ball to Naser who overpowered the man marking him in the defence and placed it calmly to the right of Argo’s goalkeeper to make it 1-1. The game poised for a nerve-wracking finish with both teams pushing for the win, Argo’s goalkeeper made some crucial saves to keep their team in the hunt for at least a point. However, around the 65th minute we were punished for committing too many players up front when they capitalized on an error by Paschim, who did not collect the ball completely, only spilled it right at the feet of another striker to give Argo the lead following a counter attack. Fröjdens did not look to give up just yet and went all guns blazing to secure a point at the least from the last game that would be played at the ‘cursed’ Green Wall. However, Argo was a very strong defensive unit and credit must be given to them to hold onto the lead they secured at the cost of an error by the goalkeeper.
4th in the League at present but not humbled, Fröjdens FK will come back stronger than ever in the remaining part of the league and we will make sure we go into the summer break with a lot of wins and confidence. We are known to share the positive energy as a unit and this is something that we will utilize in the future. Very happy to be part of this team.
