Another long season is finally reaching its conclusion. The Crusaders will meet the Örebro Blacknights in the semi-final at Tingvalla stadium in Karlstad. Kick-off is 17:00 on Saturday, September 17th.

Carlstad has beaten Örebro twice this year, each with a fairly comfortable margin. However if you look closer, Örebro played very tough for at least a half in both games. Örebro is also on a bit of a winning streak and has been playing good football since we last met them, so they are probably entering this game feeling pretty confident. In fact it appears that Örebro is playing better football right now then the #3 seed (Stockholm Mean Machines), so this figures to be a touch and exciting match-up.

On offense, our key will be that we must get big plays in the run game when Örebro plays pass defense, especially if they double top receiver Fredrik Eklund. We can’t be satisfied with modest gains (or mistakes that lead to negative plays) when Örebro is playing the pass. If we can do that then Örebro will be forced to play with more people in the box or they will need perimeter defenders to take chances in attacking the run game so that we can get some open windows in the pass game.

On defense the Crusaders have had some difficulties with depth and injuries in the secondary. Joey Stein is back and going full speed so that is a tremendous boost, but our perimeter defense is still going to be the key to watch. If we can get through the game without any mistakes that lead to big plays then Örebro should have difficulty scoring points. We will need to keep an eye on Johan Stål and make sure that we either have help or that we have one of our better DB’s matched up on him.

Simultaneously to the 17.00 Kickoff another big game Kick offs in Tyresö. The Carlstad Crusaders U-19 team are playing their semifinal vs. Tyresö Royal Crowns. The team will travel to Tyresö without their regular coaches Joey Stein and Eli Cranor who has done a tremendous job preparing the team during the season and are now being considered among those teams that might end up with the gold medals around their necks.
