• Many arms and legs. One heart.

Örebro - Hurricanes 38 - 72 (there are missing info in the statssheet) We took a late Sunday trip to Örebro for our last meeting against them for the season, and also the last away game of this season. My assessment is that the team really would want this season to just continue for many more games. They dont want it to end anytime soon. There is a real togetherness and one could argue that the message on Örebro-jerseys "Together as One" suits Hurricanes also. As a teamplayer myself - I love that message - good one Örebro! Team founders Victoria and Bodil told me they had a trip down memory lane before the game. How far we have come in 5 years, which really is 3.5 ish years due to the pandemic is really impressive. You need to remember that our womens team has not been around that long, and we have continuosly improved, both on the court and off. I saw them sitting there, remembering. It must have been a beautiful and emotional moment for them. Well, we also played a game. We got a good start and used our bigs effectively. We drew fouls on the Örebro players and they had to adjust early. We take off getting to 2-8 or 4-10 if I remember right, but they come back, and they lead 16-15. But then we shift gears. We speed the game up and continue to play hard inside. The score kept growing and growing and we can start to relax a bit, in a good way, and at times we looked unstoppable. Who remembers Moas killer crossover, beat one, beat two, draw helpside and then nice dish to someone under the basket for an easy layup - that was the play of the game right there. Or Lindas insanely hard work on the rebounds. I counted 4 offensive rebounds in one go at one time. She must be a nightmare to play against. She really brings good energy to the group, especially on the trips to games - very valueable. The list could go on and on. Everybody contributed and everyone scored in the game. We must at some point mention Annas size along with great skill from about 3534236463824672364 hours of games and practice. She is a rock under the baskets and very solid for us, both in offense and as a goalkeeper in defence. Hollys icecold veins as she makes a three on limited minutes today. Mejas stubbornness and winnermentality to keep going after some bad luck and it paid off. Victorias calm and great defensive positioning. She cares and makes others better and leads by example - hence captain. Bodils leadership today as pointguard despite not really being a true pointguard is impressive. Bodil is very much a key to our collective success as a group. Tereza "the Czech machine" as we call her, keeps doing almost everything on the court today. Even the referee told me "Wow, how did she make that shot". Julias smart play and shooting ability and I know I can count on her on the court to make smart plays. I think there is a little pointguard living inside her. Good individuals. Better team. The games ends with a clear and solid win and we just overwhelm Örebro as the game goes on. The last part we mostly switch baskets back and fourth, the game died off a bit. One final game left, vs Arvika at home on the 16/4. There are plans for events around that game, dont miss it! Work has also begun for next season. There is potential for another step forward for the team. There is interest from other clubs and it would definately improve the team. Lets see how it all unfolds. You get some and loose some, thats the reality and something we know very well, but Im optimistic about the future for the team. Lets hope all works out. But before then, we have one final match. I would guess that I dont really need to say anything to the team ahead of that one to motivate them. Maybe calm them down a bit. Basketball is fun. Hurricanes is fun. Buying a milkshake for 51kr and the team does not inform me, that there is an app where you can get it for 35 kr - then the WHOLE team buys for 35kr. Thats also fun!! Funfact at the end - who is really lost in the picture and does not really know what the sign is and how to really do it properly? Answers should be sent to the oldest in the picture :) HBK Dam Motion 27 mar 2023 1kommentar
  • Weird start - good middle - decent finish

Kungsbacka - Hurricanes 54 - 62 (17-14, 8-18, 12-17, 17-13) One happy team in a minibus - what can go wrong? We had a great trip down to Kungsbacka. I was piloting the minibus like a boss (actually I was a very nervous driving through all the constant road maintenance in Gothenburg) Linda was travelchief like usual and we had some fun activities like quizes and EPA-dunk crazyness... My 40 year old head wanted P1, I tried to put it on once. I got booed hard! Thanks team! Nothing could go wrong right? Well, several things did, as it turned out. The game got delayed because Kungbacka were waiting for some players. We all want to play a proper game - not start with them having under 5 players, but this kinda messed with our heads a bit. Its the same for both teams, one could argue - and thats true. It hurt us the most though. Kungsbacka went on a 10-0 run in the beginning. Not a good start, but it did not look completely terrible either - we got some good looks and missed, so we endured. I decided to see if the team would wake up and sort it out themselves instead of taking a timeout. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. This time it worked and we got into the game. We are trailing by 4 in Q1, mostly because of our bad start. In Q2 we kick on and start playing better. We are playing quite good, and we get into good scoring positions. Its just a matter of actually scoring then, right? Right... We had some bad misses on situations where we usually score. I feel there is more to come. Lead in halftime was 25-32. Q2 and half of Q3 are good. We are up by 17 points at most and it looks good overall, we feel control. Then we slow down and get stuck a little. Kungsbacka fights back and in the middle of Q4 they are within 3 points. We make some turnovers and bad desicions here. We take a timeout with a couple of minutes left and then they dont score again and we can control the game to an 8 point win in the end - 54 - 62. Good lesson. NEVER stop playing. Credit to the players to on the one hand, sort out a very bad start and also to find enough focus and determination to sort out the ending as well. Its mentally challenging to see the opponents come closer and closer. One key in todays win was our rebounding. We controlled both ends very good thoughout the whole game. What could we have done differently? Of course, some descisions and maybe a little "flyt" would have been welcomed. We tried to tweak our play a little, but here it was just a matter of making sure to outwork the opponents and maybe find some rhytm together, find some easy baskets and build from there. Back to basics if you like. We will need to remind ourselves of the basics - but like the saying goes - "Its not easy. Its hard. Its supposed to be hard". We should be happy. 7 out of 7 wins so far. We dont fall apart when it really matters, we find enough warriorspirit to finish good. Next game is vs Örebro, a team that has started to find its rythm. It will be a fun test on Sunday the 26/3. Work hard. Play within our rules. Run. Control the rebounds. Enjoy basketball! Over and out... HBK Dam Motion 21 mar 2023 0kommentarer
  • Ring out - but better second half

Hurricanes - Kungsbacka 52 - 31 (12-7, 12-13, 18-9, 10-2) Kungsbacka, the only team outside of our usual opponents up in the Värmland/Örebro countryside, was tonights entertainment in Hammarhallen B, along with Hurricanes. First time we met there had all the ingredients like a scary thriller movie. Wide open until the end and Hurricanes won by 2. This time Hurricanes got the better of Kungsbacka, and won comfortably in the end. It was not the most well-played game of basketball in the history of basketball, we all felt that in the team. Both teams had a very hard time making shots with a clear lack in self-confidence as it went on which was clear to see from the side. We really could not make any shots it seemed apart from layups, freethrows or from close range, despite taking good, open, balanced shots most of the time. This is the beauty of sport, in a way - you really never know what kind of game it will be and have to treat every game as its own. Nothing is granted and you always have to earn and prove yourself - every time. We take a lead in the beginning, but we are behaving like we are chasing and its the last quarter - not really sure why, perhaps we did not have the right mental state as a group today. In half time, after a poor second quarter from us, the game is 24 - 20 in our favor. Time to regroup and talk things over - how to beat a press and to be more aware of things around us. We kinda all felt that the first half here was not very good, and we can play much better. In the second half our play improves. More direct, if you will, with less "krusiduller" (transtate that! - crusidulles?). We still have a hard time shooting but our defence is better and we force Kungsbacka, who were also struggling with their shooting, to take long-shots most of the time. We make it tight and tough close to the basket and use our size. We mix some man-man with zone and that confuses our opponents sometimes. A good lesson for the team, and we are all accountable for our collective performance. From youngest to oldest player to coach. We talked about this just 2 days ago, that there might be some kind of a bump in the road coming up. Maybe we should not talk about bumps in the road :) Every season has at least one, sometimes more. Its not fun when it happens, but there can be positives from it too. Sometimes you need to perform below par in order to perform better again. We all made mistakes today but sometimes that happens. Its not the end of the world, and the best part is - there will always come new chances, both for players and coach. Now it almost sounds like we lost but we won in the end, and we take the positives, that we were able to improve a very tough start and finish the game better. That will strengthen the group going forward. Now the team has a few weekends without games. That will be good I think, a little break in the schedule. We play Kungsbacka again, down in Kungsbacka on the 19th of March. I know the team pretty well by now, and I KNOW the team will come VERY hungry to that game. But before that, we go to watch the highest womens league once again down in Mark. Inspirational with great female athletes and a fun team activity too! Who wants to sit in the coach-car? I offer P1 or P4 on the radio ALL THE WAY! HBK Dam Motion 25 feb 2023 0kommentarer
